Moab Support Forum > Exhibition Lasal 300 Luster and canon pixma pro 100

Hello!

I’m finally diving in a tackling home printing. I’ve downloaded, read, and taken copious notes on it and felt I had it together.

For some reason, this ICC profile for this paper and printer combo (pixma pro 100 and mob lasal exhibition luster 300) casts a blue tint on my image, but it does so even before I print when I am soft proofing.. the canon luster paper profiles also cast a blue tint but not white as much.
Although this is for a black and white print, the blue tint doesn’t discriminate. I work with both images shot digitally as well as negatives that I scan using epson scan, and then convert in Lightroom using negative lab pro with no color correction,

I have the x rite calibration kit but haven’t used it yet, but I don’t even think that’s issue? the photos on their own dont seem obviously blue but when I put them next to previously prints that have been done professionalsit’s very noticeable and offputting.

Could it be that those profiles are just.. bad? I’m looking into possibly getting a colormunki and creating my own profiles to be safe but I really want to diagnose and fix the problem if it is something else and take this as a learning experience.

Thankful for this forum! Very new to this!

Dani,
Great to hear you're starting to print, and sorry it is presenting challenges. I ran some test prints on the PRO-100 here in the office, and they are not printing with a blue tint, so we'll need to dig a little deeper.

First, when you are soft proofing, try toggling the selection for 'Simulate Paper Color' (PS) or 'Simulate Paper and Ink' (LR). This function tries to preview the image with the base white of the paper, but usually just ends up making it a little blue (on the Luster) or a little yellow (on Entrada). I'm guessing this is the cause of your blue-tinted preview.

Have you double-checked that your media setting for this paper matches our profile (Photo Paper Pro Luster)? A mis-matched media setting can also cause color shifts.

Lastly, what OS and version of Lightroom are you using?

I am using Lightroom Classic Version 10.1.1 and Mac OS Big Sur 11.1.

Yes, the preview is blue because I soft proof and toggle to simulate ink and paper.
The biggest problem I am now realizing is that for some reason when the print dialog box appears, my options are much more limited than what the recommendations would even allow. I can only select Envelope, Photo Paper, or Plain.

Your printing options are limited because MacOS installed your printer as an 'AirPrint' printer and is not using the printer driver. To remedy:

If you haven't yet, download and install the PRO-100 driver from the Canon web site.
Then go to System Preferences on your Mac and select 'Printers and Scanners'

From the printer list on the left, select your PRO-100 and remove it (click the - button)
Then click the + button and 'add printer or scanner'
A second window will open- select your PRO-100, then at the bottom of that window from the 'Use' pull-down menu make sure you select the Canon driver and not AirPrint or Secure AirPrint
Once this is complete when you print from Lightroom you will see all the quality and media options

If you do all this and the issue persists, we have seen some color management issues with BigSur- these will hopefully be resolved in the .2 or .3 update.
