Moab Support Forum > Issues with Canon pro 1000 & Moab Slickrock Metallic Silver 300

Hi, I am having issues with Moab Slickrock Metallic Silver 300 printed on Canon Pro 1000. I created my own icc profiles using my x-rite and also new pair settings through canon media configuration tool based on the thickness of the paper. While I get perfect color rendition in every print the issue is that I am consistently getting printer marks on the paper and its skews the paper during the final leg of its printing journey.

I presently use Qimage

I tried numerous settings like printer abrasion - ON and OFF
changed types of paper... and also used advanced settings of med-high and high (based on which I created my media profile) and use manual feed.

After using numerous sheets, I am just wondering if any of the members managed to solve this issue.

this is the first I am encountering this issue with any set of papers with my Canon pro 1000. Would love to hear the members thoughts on the possible issues...

thank you.

The paper skews at the end of the print because one corner of the sheet is not flat, and it is caught by the printhead during the final few passes. This kicks the sheet to one side, and creates the ghosted/off center image you're seeing. Before printing, lay the sheet on a flat surface and see if any of the corners are lifted. If so, gently curl that corner the opposite direction so the sheet lays flat. This should solve the issue.

No - that's not it at all. I'm having the same thing happen. Brand new paper. Brand new Canon pro-1000 printer. Can not get one sheet through without this same thing happening.

Because the Silver paper has a layer of foil between alpha cellulose paper and a clear coating it is sensitive to environmental changes and ambient temperature, as all 3 components expand at different rates. You will likely need to gently flatten each sheet before printing, as even a small curl at one corner can cause issues during printing. I do recommend 'avoid abrasion' in the print settings when printing the Silver.

I am having the same issue. The paper has been under heavy books for the last week as recommended (so no curling or bowing of any kind), the media type and ICC profile is properly set up for the canon 1000, but all the prints slip in the last stages of printing... producing silver lines and ghosting. I have wasted a whole box of paper and just about at tearing stage trying to get these photos to come out right. Please advise.

This happens because the print head is catching the trailing edge of the paper- sometimes it appears flat when you load the sheet in the printer, but as the ink is applied it may cause the sheet to curl slightly. You can try running it through the manual feed vs the top/sheet feed, and if size allows move your image forward on the sheet so there is a 1" or more trailing margin, so if the printer does snag the sheet it won't ruin the print, only the unprinted margin.

Yep - same issue. I understand from our local rep that the manufacturer of this paper has stopped production and Moab is having difficulty finding another manufacturer....so it appears it may be a moot point unless the new manufacturer can overcome the issue. A shame, though, as the paper has really cool visual properties that suit certain image types exceptionally well.

I just bought 2 sizes of the Moab Slickrock, and love it. I was able to download the ICC for both the Pearl and Silver from Moab into Photoshop, and have printed 5 pieces yesterday with no issues.
