Moab Support Forum > Borderless double-sided printing: ink marks on reverse of paper
Ethan,
Sorry to hear you're having difficulties. When printing borderless, the printer does overspray ink on both sides of the paper, and this is caught by the small sponges at regular intervals under the printhead path. If you are printing multiple pages in quick succession, this ink doesn't have time to dry, and will be absorbed by the back of the next sheet, just as you are experiencing. I have two suggestions to help prevent this:
Wait 5 to 10 minutes between pages to let the overspray ink dry inside the printer. You may have to wait longer between pages, this is just a guess. If you use the borderless setting of 'retain size' you may minimize the overspray.
Or, if you are already planning to trim your pages, I'd suggest printing on a slightly larger sheet, and trimming all sides after printing, so you can avoid the overspray issue, and print all your pages at once.
Hope this helps, and good luck with your portfolio.

Thanks much. Yeah, those "sponges" are incredibly small, thin and nearly useless. Those are both good suggestions; I'll try them both. Unfortunately I already bought five boxes of 13x19, but I might get some 17x22 just for the borderless pages. Thanks again.

My one concern is that the ink won't really dry at all. In my experience those inkjet inks don't dry well without being in contact with a properly coated paper. We'll see. Thanks.

Desperately seeking help. On my Epson 7890, I'm trying to print my portfolio, double sided, with many borderless images. I'm printing on 13x19 Moab Entrada Bright 190.
The problem I'm having is, I'm getting ink marks on the reverse side of the paper (which ultimately will be printed on). They're regular marks, about /18" apart, along the long dimension of the paper, most prominently along the right side (as you're facing the printer), where the print head is. It's pretty clear to me that the borderless printing is resulting in some ink overspill, and when the print head passes over the area of overspill, that momentary pressure presses the paper against that area, leaving a mark on the underside.
Has anyone encountered and solved this? My whole portfolio is planned and built around printing 13x19. I can't simply trim off the marked area. The final trim size will be 13x18, so I need to keep the 13" dimension intact.
thank you
