Moab Support Forum > Scoring and folding Lasal Dual Semigloss 330
Russell, I am not sure how to specifically answer the question, as it will likely depend on your own experience with the paper. We do score the paper for our own Chinle line of digital books and it works like a charm, however we haven't folded over the paper onto itself for what you are needing to do. There is a definable crease, but we don't know if it will meet your expectations or not.

Unless I'm missing it, I don't see the dual semigloss 330 offered with the chinle books, but that is the exact way I'd be using this paper, just in a larger custom size book.
Would it be possible to send me a sample of this paper, so I can test scoring and folding it?

Hi Russell, Some clarification: Although the Lasal Dual Semigloss will score, we have found that it begins to crack when the paper is folded over at 180 degrees. This is the nature of the ceramic coating in these papers. The score will hold under less stress, but it sounds like you want the paper to lay completely flat. Happy to send you a sample to conduct your own tests. Shoot us an email with your address to info (at) legionpaper (dot) com

After your initial response, I just went ahead and ordered a pack of paper (which i just received today). It now sounds like this was the wrong paper to purchase. I will test it and provide feedback.
If this is paper does not score well, what do you recommend for a book like this? The lasal photo matte 235? Seems like that has a lower opacity which might show some bleed through if printing both sides...

I tried scoring and folding this paper with disappointing results. If I did a light score and tried to fold it, the surface would crack. I tried scoring both sides along the same line with multiple passes of a scoring tool... this had the effect of essentially cutting the surface of the paper. It resulted in a cleaner fold, but there was so little holding the paper together at that point that I think if I put these in a book, the pages would rip at the fold and tear out very easily.
So the Lasal Semigloss 330 will not work for a screw post portfolio book, unless you can make some other recommendation on how to score/fold this.
So that being said, Is the photo matte 235 the best option in Moab papers?

I'm looking at using the Lasal Dual Semigloss 330 double sided for a custom sized screw post portfolio book. I'd like to find out if this paper handles being scored and folded without cracking, etc. I need nice clean folds at the binding of the book as some images will be printed across two pages. I know some semigloss papers tend to crack when trying to fold them, but I'm attracted to this paper due to its thickness and opacity. Can someone let me know if this paper can be scored and folded cleanly?
Thanks, Russell
