Moab Support Forum > Entrada Rag Bright 300 5 x 7 on Epson R3000
John, we are having zero issues with our R3000 with any of our thicker papers, even though Epson may not officially support heavier papers. You will always want to use our recommended media type, as it does many things for the printed image. The media type tells the printer how much ink to put down onto the paper, which allows us to control how deep and rich the blacks are as well as how vibrant the colors are.
With all of this being said we also make an Entrada Bright 190gsm that you may be interested in, as it is less heavy and may be more appropriate.

I do have the Entrada Bright 5x7 190gsm with Epson R3000 and I still cannot use the Epson profile "Watercolor radiant white". As John pointed out, the results using "premium matte" are lousy. Any advice ?

Pierre-
I sent you an email with my contact info, I believe we can best resolve this over the phone.
Thanks,
Evan

I'm having this same issue. Have a gallery sale tomorrow and just figured out I can't use this 5x7 entrada paper with my epson r3000 without using the correct media type. Can you please email me too?

Lynn, you can just use the Ultra Premium Presentation Matte as a substitute media type. There will be a very slight difference in the blacks, due to the media type controlling the amount of ink that is being laid down, however the colors will be spot on.

I am also using the EPSON R3000 and when selecting media type the option for "Watercolor Radiant White" is greyed out. I have loaded the icc profile in the correct folder and selected the proper icc profile in the print dialogue. I am trying to print a 5x7 on the MOAB Entrada Rag Bright 300. Can you please help me resolve this issue? Thanks

Clyde,
On Epson printers, the manual feed is only available for papers 8x10 and larger. For 5x7 sheets, you need to run them through the normal sheet feeder, and using this option all of the 'fine art paper' options will be unavailable (greyed out) in the selection window. Instead, use a paper setting of Ultra Premium Presentation Paper Matte and you should be all set to print.

Thank you. I saw that suggestion that was posted earlier in the thread and it did not work, unfortunately the rendering of the print is not acceptable.I bought several boxes of this paper hoping to be able to get some nice prints, now I can't use this paper. Is there a chance the profile can be updated so that me and many others can use the suggested media type of "Watercolor Radiant White"?
I also have an Epson Stylus 835 printer for which I can't find a profile at all for, but the print was closer than that as you suggested. Am I correct that there is no profile for the Epson Stylus 835? Please help. Thanks

For smaller paper, including pre-folded greeting cards, you can tell the printer that it has 8.5 x11 stock in the feeder, and create a custom template in photoshop or lightroom that places the image correctly for a 5 x 7 image on 5x7 stock. The head will overtravel the paper, but it won't lay ink down if you've set up the template properly. The size limitation in the driver is an Epson limitation, not a profile limitation. That's in the printer firmware, and I don't believe there's a way to get around it. The sheet feeder will have problems with 300gsm weight paper though. For sheet-fed production runs, the 190gsm works much better.
The 835 uses Claria inks, which are dye-based, and probably not as archival as the pigment inks that the professional printers uses, if that matters. You could try profiling the printer yourself using a ColorMunki or similar system.

Jim is correct, there is no way around the 5x7 restriction on the fine art/manual feed setting, it is a limitation of the printer firmware/driver.
Clyde, I would be happy to create a new Entrada Bright profile using the Ultra Premium Presentation Paper Matte setting to see if we can get better results. To do this, please email me for details. evan [at] legionpaper.com

I have the icc profile. It recommends paper type = watercolor radiant white. The R3000 driver has an interlock preventing that selection for 5 x 7 paper. Worse, when I call Epson support, the tech claims that Entrada Rag Bright 300 is too thick to be used with the R3000 sheet feeder. Although it feeds smoothly, he claims that it will damage the mechanism. At any rate, the results are lousy when I use the Moab icc profile with paper type = premium matte.
The Epson tech said the maximum thickness compatible with the R3000 sheet feeder was "8 mils" (0.2 mm) and that the Entrada rag 300 was 22.4 mils, or 0.56 mm. Interestingly, the R3000 driver *will* let me select that paper thickness with size = 5 x 7 (an inconsistency with the claimed spec,) Mainly, I just want to find a good, bright white, matte paper that works on the R3000 and with a paper size of 5 x 7. Any advice will be appreciated.
