Moab Support Forum > Entrada Bright 24" x 100'

Just got my Entrada Bright 24" x 100' roll from B&H Photo for my Epson 7900.

Yet it doesn't seem to be able to fit - the roll (with paper) seems to be too thick to fit on roll paper holders.

I checked in the 7900 manual and sure enough it says the 7900 can handle rolls from 15 to 300 ft.

Can I get some help here - thanks!!!!

Hi Mike-- Are you talking about the spindles (Epson calls them "media adapters") that fit into the ends of the roll so you can mount the paper on the printer? These spindles can handle 2 inch or 3 inch core rolls. There's a switch on the handle side of the spindle that you can move to make the spindle fit into either size core.

Hope this helps.

Hi Phyllis,

Thanks so much for the reply.

No the media adapters work just fine. I've used both 2" and 3" roll paper many times.

No, I'm talking about loading the paper onto the "roll paper holder" (from the 7900 manual) -- there's literally too much paper with the 100' roll for it to fit onto the holders. (Wish I could send you a photo from my iPhone).

I could always just waste several feet until it becomes manageable -- probably 10-15' -- but was hoping for some guidance here.

The 100' roll is indeed supposed to work with the Epson 7900, right?

Thanks again.

Thanks for any and all assistance with this!!!!

I was just looking into the 100 foot roll prices and one site indicated that it will not fit the 7900. Sorry, don't have the link ,but I think you can research that.

Huh, I would have thought a 7900 could run a 100' roll. I use a 9900 and the 100' fits just fine. The manuals I think are even the same one for both models. I'm really surprised! Perhaps the thickness of the Entrada comes into play here. It would make for a thicker roll, but I've used 100' rolls of 310gsm paper and had no trouble. I wouldn't think the form factor of the 7900 and 9900 would be so different, just less wide.

Wish I could help you more! You could always roll some of the paper onto an old core and save it for later. I've done that before and had no trouble loading it onto the printer.

Best to you!

Thanks again for all your help -- and on a Saturday evening, no less.

I wish I had a spare roll core; I was thinking of what you noted about saving some for later printing. Alas, I had to remove approximately 20-25 feet before it would fit onto the 7900.

Live and learn!

OK, hate to be a problem customer here, but I now have a different problem.

This is my first test of Moab paper; I've used (primarily) Museo and Epson papers in the past. I've loaded and used many, many rolls of paper without any problems as far as loading and feeding are concerned.

After I removed the first 20-25 feet (noted above) I was able to print two works without any problems. Then the loading errors started.

On page 68 of the Epson 7900 manual it describes how to load roll paper. Since I first acquired the 7900 -- 3-4 years ago -- I've loaded the roll paper this way (always) and never had a single issue.

However, no matter how many times I remove and reload the roll paper I ALWAYS get an error message saying the printer has experienced a loading error and that I need to refer to the manual.

I've looked at the Troubleshooting sections of the manual at great length and tried a few remedies, but no success so far. There are no paper jams and/or anything obstruction the paper pathway. Everything looks great, but nothing works.

Do I need to adjust any software settings, for instance, in association with this paper?

Please help.

Mike, what is the exact error message you are receiving? We don't have any issues at all with our Epson 9900 with any of our papers, and want to get to the bottom of the issue for you.

Thanks for your reply.

After contacting Epson tech support early this morning we managed to solve the issue -- after a few former ideas were tried that didn't work -- by simply removing another 15 feet or so of paper off the roll; this has solved the matter entirely.

What it all comes down to is the fact that on my 7900, at least, anything more than 50-60' of 300 gsm paper on a roll and the printer simply can't manage it. This, even though the roll seemed to be workable in every way, i.e. paper flow was smooth and not jamming in any way.

Again, live and learn.

If anyone can confirm my experience with the 7900, I'd love to hear from them.

Just as an additional point:

I asked Epson if 100' rolls were accomodated on the 7900; I was told that it depends on the paper. Some Epson papers are offered in 100' rolls for the 7900, but a number are not.

"If the paper is a thick, fine art paper it generally will not be able to fit the 7900," I was informed.

Moab may want to note these specifics on its web page, as I don't want others to have to go through the headache I personally experienced.
