Moab Support Forum > Photoshop CS6 Adobe Color Printer Utility

Question regarding Moab's "Printing with .icc Profiles in Adobe Photoshops CS3/CS4/CS5" page:

When attempting to print without Color Management in PS CS6 (i.e. PS manages color (in the Color Handling section of the Photoshop CS6 Print dialog box)) I get a pop-up error message that says I must use the Adobe Color Printer Utility. It refers me to this page:

http://helpx.adobe.com/photoshop/kb/no-color-management-option-missing .html

Yet the page says nothing about CS6, only CS5.

What gives? Is the Utility for CS6?

The reason it's a problem is because the Utility doesn't allow selection of ICC profiles... at least not that I can see.

Britt, are you wanting to print without any color management for the creating of your own ICC profiles?

Hello!

Thanks for responding to my initial post.

No, I'm not trying to create my own ICC profiles. I'm simply trying to follow your instruction set — "Instructions for Photoshop CS3/CS4/CS5"; the only difference is that I'm using Photoshop CS6.

Since CS6 is a little bit different than the process outlined in this instruction set, I'm nevertheless fine until I get to this point:

In the Color Handling dialog, make the following selections:
1. Select Photoshop Manages Colors.

The minute I do so, I get a pop-up window that declares that managing colors in Photoshop is not possible. I have to use the Adobe Color Printer Utility. (If it were possible to post photos on this forum I would send you a screenshot.) Then it provides a link for me to acquire it.

As noted in my initial post, the Utility does not allow you to select any ICC profiles. It's not like Photoshop's Print dialog box, in other words. There is no section that allows you to select the Moab ICC profile you would like.

That's why I'm frustrated with this entire situation.

Any information you might be able to provide would be most sincerely appreciated.

Thanks again!

Britt, here are the steps for Photoshop CS6 and Photoshop CC:

Printing with .icc Profiles in Adobe Photoshop CS6/CC
1. Select Print from the File Menu
2. Select the appropriate printer in the dropdown menu in the dialogue box.
3. Select Print Settings and choose the appropriate printer, paper size, and orientation. **Be sure to disable / turn off color management in the printer driver, as this is being handle in Photoshop**. After confirming the settings, click OK and return to the Print Preview dialog.
4. In the Color Management area use the following:
a) Select Photoshop Manages Colors.
b) Choose the profile that matches your printer/ink/paper combination from the drop
down menu. (MOAB Entrada Bright 4800 for example)
c) Select the Percepual or Relative rendering intent. **Please use the Relative Rendering intent if you are using our Slickrock Metallic papers***
c) Select Black Point Compensation.
d) Click on the Print button. (optional) Save your settings as a preset so that they are accessible the next time they are needed. When using presets, it is still important to check each specific setting to ensure consistency in your workflow.
Select Print.

Andy,

Many thanks for the follow-up info.

After checking with a couple of people online today — fellow artists — it may be the case that because I'm not using the Extended Edition of Photoshop CS6 my Print dialog box may be slightly different than most everyone else's (since it seems most people are using Extended).

So maybe this explains the discrepancies. But with your help I think I've got everything figured out.

Thanks again!
