Moab Support Forum > Canon 8300 Entrada Media Setting
David-
Thank you for your feedback. We created the .am1 files with the best knowledge we had at the time when the 8300 wasn't announced (we had a unit many many months before even the announcement). It appears that some of the media types changed with regards to ink limits in the final firmware version, and it warrants our going back to look to see how we can optimize our own MCT files that we deliver to our customers.
Thanks again for the feedback and your including your results.

Thanks. I'll add that I used the Density test file from Inkjetart (http://www.inkjetart.com/custom_profiles/DensityOther.zip) which has crosshairs in various widths in some black and other dark grey patches. The Fine Art Photo preset was the only one that showed a nice clean 1 pixel crosshair (the thinnest one) in the black patch. The other media selections I tried (Fine Art Wtrclr, Fine Art Natural 230g, and Special 7-9) did not show a very clean crosshair in the black.

David, we have recreated the iPF8300 MCT file and related profiles for all of our Entrada Rag line of papers. This includes Entrada Rag Bright and Entrada Rag Natural. We have both the 16bit Photoshop plug as well as the regular printer driver profiles available.
Please let me know how the profiles work out for you.

Wow, thanks, Andy! What service!
The new paper preset looks much better to me, with the lower ink limit and preset the shadows are less blocked up. Also, the new profile seems to be a better match as well.

I'm hoping Andy can comment on this.
I'm setting up a Canon 8300 to use Entrada Natural 190 rolls, and the MCT file (.am1) I downloaded from Moab doesn't seem to have the correct paper/ink density settings. Was this made with a heavier weight Entrada than the 190?
After experimenting with several Media Settings and ink densities, I've concluded that the Fine Art Photo setting is the best (the Moab MCT file uses FineArt Wtrclr), with ink density set to Low (the Moab MCT file uses Medium-High). The default ink density for Fine Art Photo seems to be Medium-Low, but I found that with the Low setting I could see some separation between 0% black and 5% black that wasn't so visible with the Medium-Low setting. I know that separation between 0% and 5% is not necessarily the goal, but it's nice to get it, and in any case the settings in the Moab MCT file just didn't look good at all.
Thanks for your comments!
